Terms

The deal between you and Off the Hook, in plain words. No hidden price, and cancelling works.

Updated

The short version

  • You see the price before you pay. Every price and trial length is shown in the app before you confirm.
  • Cancel any time. In iPhone Settings, at least 24 hours before it renews. You keep access until the period ends.
  • We build on the platforms' own websites. When they change, something can break for a while. We fix it as fast as we can.
  • Lumi is an AI guide, not a therapist. It can be wrong, and it can't change your plan without your approval.
  • You're always in charge. You can switch off Off the Hook's Screen Time access in iPhone Settings at any time.
  • Danish law, your consumer rights intact. Nothing here takes away rights the law gives you.

About these terms

These terms are an agreement between you and Jacob Gade Hartmann, trading as MediaVikings (CVR 43433547, Randers NV, Denmark), the independent developer who makes Off the Hook ("we", "us"). They cover the Off the Hook app for iPhone, the website offthehook.app and the waitlist.

By downloading or using Off the Hook, you accept these terms and Apple's standard license for apps (the Licensed Application End User License Agreement). If you don't accept them, please don't use the app. How we handle your data is described in our privacy policy.

What Off the Hook does

Off the Hook gives you a calm version of your social apps and a plan for your phone time:

  • Calm versions of Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and Snapchat, where we hide things like Reels, Explore, For You, Spotlight and suggested posts, so you keep friends, messages and posts
  • The real apps stay locked with Apple's Screen Time. Breaks open them for a short time
  • Blocks that follow your personal plan, and Lumi, an AI guide that helps you adjust it

Off the Hook is a tool to help you build better habits. It's not a medical device and it doesn't treat addiction or any other condition.

Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and Snapchat

The calm versions are the platforms' own websites, shown with your own login inside the app. We don't use hidden or private APIs, and we never see your password.

  • You use the platforms on their terms. Your accounts and everything you post or send are your responsibility, under each platform's own terms and rules.
  • The platforms change their websites often. When they do, a filter can stop working, something hidden can show up, or a feature can disappear for a while. We update our filters quickly and usually without an app update, but we can't promise that every feature works at all times.
  • Some features only exist in the real apps. The websites don't offer everything the apps do. A break lets you use the real app.
  • We're not affiliated with them. Off the Hook isn't affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Meta, TikTok, Snap or Apple. Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and Snapchat are trademarks of their owners.

Screen Time and blocking

Blocking uses Apple's Screen Time framework, which you allow during setup. It works within the limits Apple sets. iOS can occasionally delay a block or a relock, and an iOS update can change how things work.

You're always in control of your own phone. You can remove Off the Hook's Screen Time access in iPhone Settings or delete the app at any time. Off the Hook isn't parental control software, and it isn't built to restrict someone else's phone.

Lumi

Lumi is an AI guide that helps you plan your days and talk through urges. Please keep in mind:

  • Lumi can be wrong. Its replies are generated by an AI model and can be inaccurate or miss the point. Use your own judgment.
  • Lumi isn't professional help. It's not a therapist, doctor or crisis service, and it doesn't give medical or psychological advice. If you're struggling, talk to someone you trust or a professional. In an emergency, call your local emergency number.
  • Lumi suggests, the app enforces. Lumi can propose changes to your plan, but nothing changes until you tap Approve. Your rules are run by the app's own code, never by an AI reply.
  • There's a fair-use limit. To keep Lumi available for everyone, there's a daily limit on messages that ordinary use won't reach. The app tells you if you hit it.

Subscriptions and trials

Off the Hook is offered as an auto-renewing subscription, monthly or yearly, and may include a free trial. The price, the length of the period and any trial are always shown in the app before you confirm. Prices can vary by country and include local VAT where it applies.

Payment
Charged to your Apple ID when you confirm the purchase, or when the free trial ends
Renewal
Your subscription renews automatically at the same length and price, unless you turn off auto-renew at least 24 hours before the period ends. Apple charges the renewal within the last 24 hours of the period
Cancelling
Go to Settings → your name → Subscriptions on your iPhone, or tap "Manage subscription" in the app. You keep access until the period you've paid for ends
Free trial
Cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends and you won't be charged. If you buy a subscription during a trial, the rest of the trial ends
Restoring
On a new phone, tap "Restore purchases" in the app with the same Apple ID
Price changes
A new price only applies to existing subscribers after Apple has told you about it and, where required, you've agreed

All purchases are handled by Apple and also follow the App Store's terms.

Refunds and withdrawal

Refunds are handled by Apple. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. We can't refund App Store purchases ourselves.

In the EU you normally have a 14-day right of withdrawal for online purchases. Because the subscription starts right away, you agree when you buy that it begins immediately, and the right of withdrawal ends once it has started, as far as the law allows. This doesn't affect your other rights under consumer law.

Age

You must be at least 13 to use Off the Hook, the same age the social platforms require. If you're under 18, a parent or guardian should agree to these terms with you and should handle any purchase.

Fair use

Please don't:

  • Use Off the Hook to break the law or the platforms' rules, or to access accounts that aren't yours
  • Try to get around the subscription, copy, decompile or reverse-engineer the app, or extract our filter rules for another product
  • Overload or misuse Lumi, for example by automating messages or trying to make it produce harmful content
  • Resell, sublicense or redistribute the app

If you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, we can limit or close your access to Lumi and our servers.

Our rights and your license

Off the Hook, including the code, design, texts, Lumi, the logo and the filter rules, belongs to us and is protected by copyright and trademark law. We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the app on Apple devices you own or control, for your own private use. These terms don't give you ownership of anything in the app.

What you write to Lumi is yours. You allow us to process it only to run Lumi for you, as described in the privacy policy.

Warranty and liability

We work hard to make Off the Hook reliable, but it's provided "as is" and "as available". We can't promise that it will always be free of errors, work with every future iOS version or be available without interruption, especially when the platforms change their websites.

As far as the law allows, our total liability to you is limited to what you paid for Off the Hook in the 12 months before the claim. We're not liable for indirect losses, such as lost data, lost earnings or consequences of content on the social platforms. None of this limits liability that can't be limited by law, including your rights as a consumer.

Ending, changes and law

Ending

You can stop at any time: turn off auto-renew and delete the app. You can also delete your account and Lumi's data in the app under Settings. If we ever stop offering Off the Hook, we'll tell you in advance in the app.

Changes

We may update these terms when the app or the law changes. The latest version is always on this page. For important changes, we tell you in the app before they take effect. If you don't accept the new terms, you can stop using the app and cancel your subscription.

Law and disputes

These terms are governed by Danish law. If something goes wrong, write to us first and we'll try to solve it. If we can't agree, you can complain to the Danish consumer complaints board via naevneneshus.dk, or bring the case before the Danish courts. If you live in another EU country, you keep the protection of your own country's mandatory consumer law and can use your local courts.

The waitlist

Joining the waitlist is free and doesn't commit you to anything. We send you one text when Off the Hook launches, and then we delete your number. Reply STOP to be removed sooner.
