How to turn off suggested posts on Instagram.

There's no switch that turns them off for good. Here's every option Instagram does give you, and how long each one lasts.

To turn off suggested posts on Instagram, snooze them: tap the three dots above a suggested post › Not interested › Snooze. That pauses suggested posts in your feed for 30 days, after which they come back. For a feed with no suggestions at all, tap the Instagram logo at the top of Home › Following, which shows only people you follow, newest first, until you reopen the app. Reels and Explore keep suggesting either way; there is no permanent off switch.

How long each one lasts.

The trouble isn't finding the setting. It's that every one of them runs out.

Bars show how long each option keeps suggestions out of your feed. Snooze is drawn as 30 days of a 100-day scale; the others are approximate.

Every switch, step by step.

Longest built-in option

Snooze suggested posts

  1. Find a suggested post in your feed and tap the three dots above it.
  2. Tap Not interested.
  3. Tap Snooze.

Pauses suggested posts in your feed for 30 days. Reels and Explore aren't affected. You'll also find it under Profile › Menu › Content preferences.

No suggestions at all

The Following feed

  1. Open Home.
  2. Tap the Instagram logo at the top.
  3. Choose Following.

Posts from accounts you follow in the last 30 days, newest first. It doesn't stick: the app opens on the ranked feed next time. In some newer layouts the tabs read All, Friends and Latest; only Latest is chronological.

One account or topic at a time

Not interested

  1. Tap the three dots on a suggested post.
  2. Tap Not interested, then Don't suggest posts from the account, or Don't suggest posts with certain words.

Teaches the feed what you don't want. You get less of that, not fewer suggestions.

Start over

Reset suggested content

  1. Go to Profile › Menu › Content preferences.
  2. Tap Reset suggested content › Next, review who you follow, and confirm.

Clears what Instagram has learned for Explore, Reels and your feed. It can't be undone, doesn't change who you follow, and suggestions personalise again as you use the app.

Steer, don't stop

Your Algorithm

Since December 2025, the icon at the top right of Reels shows what Instagram thinks you're into, and lets you ask for more or less of a topic. It has since come to Explore.

Changes which suggestions you get, not whether you get them. Availability varies by country and language.

Words you never want to see

Hidden Words

  1. Go to Profile › Menu, and search for Hidden Words.
  2. Add words or phrases to filter from suggested content and comments.

Useful for topics that wear you down. It filters, it doesn't switch suggestions off.

30

days. Then the suggestions come back by themselves.

If you stay with Instagram's own settings, add a repeating 30-day reminder to your calendar called "Snooze Instagram suggestions". It's the closest thing to a permanent switch.

Or a feed that never had them.

Off the Hook opens Instagram on the people you follow, newest first, every time. No suggested posts, no Reels tab, no Explore. When you've seen the last few days, it ends.

Questions

Can you permanently turn off suggested posts on Instagram?

No. The longest built-in option is Snooze, which pauses suggested posts in your feed for 30 days. The Following feed has no suggestions but resets when you reopen the app.

Does snoozing remove suggestions from Reels and Explore?

No. Snooze covers your main feed. Reels and Explore are made of suggestions and keep showing them. To lose them too, see Instagram without Reels.

Why do I keep seeing suggested posts after I snoozed them?

Snooze lasts 30 days and then switches itself off. Set a reminder to snooze again, or use the Following feed, which has no suggestions at all.

What does Reset suggested content do?

It clears what Instagram has learned about your interests for recommendations in Explore, Reels and your feed. It doesn't change who you follow, and suggestions start personalising again as you use the app.

Why can't I find the Snooze option?

Menus differ between accounts and change often, and some users have reported it missing for a while. Look for it in the menu on a suggested post first, then under Profile › Menu › Content preferences.
